You need to attend the Free Community Disaster Preparedness Fair - Ready in Red - hosted by the western Kentucky Chapter of the Red Cross. Its being held on September 9th from 10am to 2pm on the grounds of the new Holiday Inn Paducah Riverfront Hotel.
Families across our region will be able to take part in activities designed to prepare individuals in the event of a home or community disaster. The first 200 families will be given their own free starter disaster preparedness kit when they attend.
You’ll learn how to be ready for a flood or disaster such as the experienced by New Orleans and Houston. Throughout the event there will be displays and demonstrations from area response agencies such as the Paducah National Weather Service, McCracken County Emergency Management, Paducah Fire Department and others.
There will be activities for kids to take part in so that they can become prepared family members. Local meteorologist and science educator Jason Lindsey will be there bringing his education program, Hooked on Science. He will provide experiments and fun learning moments.
You’ll also get the chance to meet former Titan’s football player George Wilson and The Weather Channel’s Dr. Greg Forbes as we welcome them as special guests of the fair!
“One thing I believe wholeheartedly is that a community prepared is a community strong,” Jennifer Rukavina, WPSD Chief Meteorologist told me. “As our community grows and expands it’s important that we remember that disasters can strike at any time, and the better prepared we are, the more resilient we’ll be in recovery.”
The local Red Cross chapter is still welcoming business sponsors for the event and can obtain more information concerning sponsor levels and event opportunities by contacting Jennifer Rukavina at firstname.lastname@example.org.
