Sean Nguyen is the owner and manager of a great local business - Queen Nail Spas. They have recently opened their second location in Paducah. Sean was born in Vietnam but the US is truly his home. He’s a U of L alumni who likes to read in his spare time. And, as summer is his favorite season, he’s happy as a clam. iMeet this fun, multi-talented business owner.
I was born in Vietnam and lived there until I was 12 years old. My parents came to the USA to start a business and I moved here in 1999 to reunite with my family. I went to high school here in Paducah and then attended the University of Louisville where I studied business. After I graduated I can back home to help run Queen Nail Spa.
There are many differences between the countries but, in my opinion, the biggest one is the opportunity for freedom. In Vietnam, there is almost no freedom for anything.
I am the eldest of four; I have two sisters and one brother. One brother and sister live here with our parents and one is currently in medical school at the University of Louisville.
I also have an amazing girlfriend. Her name is Camie Lau and she’s from California. Camie moved to Louisville, when she was 18-years-old to help her brother with his family and business. I met Camie three years ago, and it took a long time for her to agree to date me. But after two years we began our relationship. That was May 1 of last year, which makes this month our anniversary month.
Queen Nail Spa started out as a family business by the name of Regal Nails. For many years it was located inside Walmart on Hinkleville Road. It was owned by my parents, Quang Pham and Lan Than. In 2010, they moved out of Walmart and opened a beautiful spa just across the street. The big, new location needed a great name so we rebranded it to Queen Nail Spa.
I worked in the salon growing up and while I attended the University of Louisville. In 2013, I bought the business from my parents and updated the way it was managed.
At Queen Nail Spas our main focus is on customer service, sanitation, and professionalism. We now have two locations: one near Kentucky Oaks Mall and on the Southside near Trees N Trends. It’s amazing to realize that we now have almost 20 full-time professional technicians on staff!
I like to read and to spend time with my girlfriend and family.
I have many favorite books, but if I have to name one, then I would have to go with 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.
The absolute best part of my job is dealing with people… and that is also the hardest part. Anyone who works in customer service knows this to be true.
Summer is the best season for our business, and it is also my favorite season. I enjoy the warm weather, and it brings people out for manicures and pedicures.
I like Vietnamese pho (a type of Vietnamese soup, typically made from beef stock and spices to which noodles and thinly sliced beef or chicken are added) because it is good, healthy, and quick.
My best vacation spot is where my girlfriend wants to go the most because I love to see her happy. (Ahhh, that is very sweet)
This year, I mostly have traveling plans for weddings and a family reunion. Camie and I are planning a trip for ourselves maybe to Hawaii.
