Imagine having your whole world turned upside down. Imagine not knowing what you or your child’s future will look like. Who will pay the medical bills? How will you support your family while caring for your child who has been diagnosed with cancer? Families going through Childhood Cancer are living this nightmare.
The Just Imagine™ Walk aims to raise money that will directly assist local families. Every dollar raised will be split 50/50 between Childhood Cancer Research and local families that are experiencing pediatric cancer. It will assist with medical bills and other expenses.
This year, Book for Hope will be helping fund research at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tennessee and helping with the medical expenses of Kendall James. Kendall is five-years-old and lives in Draffenville with her mom, dad, and two sisters. Kendall is currently receiving treatment for pediatric cancer.
The 2nd Annual Just Imagine™ Walk is being held on Saturday, September 9 at Shelter 16 in Noble Park. All activities and registration begin at 8 am. At 9 am, childhood cancer survivors will lead the walk, together with those walking in memory of a loved one.
Last year, Book For Hope raised $10,180.28 from the 1st Annual Just Imagine® Walk. Their goal is to raise $15,000.00 this year.
The online registration is over, however organizers have ordered extra supplies and people can register the day of the walk.
Organizers are still in need of a t-shirt sponsor. The only money Book for Hope® uses from the walk money is to pay for the very discounted t-shirt cost. People are still able to donate or step up and be a T-shirt sponsor by contacting Gaylon Hayden at 270.519.6536.
At this year’s walk organizers are thrilled to have a special guest speaker from Gallatin, Tennessee, Jessica Meyer. Having battled childhood cancer herself, she continues to spread hope and positivity to those around her..
Jessica Meyer is an ambassador for Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, Make-A-Wish Middle Tennessee, and Rally for Kids. She is also the 2015-2016 Tennessee Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Champion Ambassador.
Jessica is on a mission to support organizations that help children fight pediatric cancer and raise funding for life saving research. Her goal is to educate and inspire others to find cure for pediatric cancer.
The little girl organizers have chosen to support this year is Kendall James, daughter of Shawn and Kendra James from Marshall County.
“Kendall was 5-years-old when we began to see her infectious smile on social media,” Book of Hope Founder and Just Imagine Walk Organizer, Gaylon Hayden told me. “I reached out to her mom and met her, along with Kendall, for lunch. Within a 2 week period we had everything set in place to help this family living in our purchase area,”
Gaylon is thrilled to be able to help a family right here in the purchase area, give money to childhood cancer research, and bring awareness to childhood cancer in our area.
“This is a very good reason to come out and lace up your tennis shoes and walk!”
