Point, Set, Match for Easter Seals

The US Open Tennis Tournament is in its final days in New York….will it be Nadal and Federer in the final?! We’ve got our own tennis excitement right here in western Kentucky.  A charity tennis tourney with a doubles format  and super fun purchase options.

If you’re a tennis player but can’t quite match the play at the US Open this tourney is for you. With an eye to keeping this tournament relaxed and fun, organizers came up with a “do over” package.

Oops Cards

This is going to be  a lot of fun for both payer and spectators. It’s something completely different from everything else in the area. For an additional $50 total, or $10 each, you can purchase a set of "oops" cards to play during the tournament.

The “Oops” Cards include:

  • An Isner Ace – your partner serves one point for you
  • A McEnroe Spin – This “do over” allows you to spin the racquet to see who wins the previous point.
  • Serena Switch – allows you to choose who receives the serve
  • Sharapova Serve – Allows you a 3rd serve.
  • A Bryan Brothers’ Break – Allows you to switch partners (with someone on your court) during one game of your match.
  • The Wozniacki Wish ‐ Allows you to play the previous point over.

Play the pro

On the day of the tournament organizers are offering “play against the pro” paid court time with Mel Purcell, former Wimbledon player and coach of  Murray State University (MSU) Women’s tennis team. The MSU women's team will also be there adding to the fun atmosphere and excitement.

How fast was that?

Another fun court activity at the tournament will be a competition where a radar gun will clock each player's serve.

50/50 Raffle

The biggest prize of the day will be a 50/50 cash raffle from tickets available on the day of the tournament.

And there’s more!

Enjoy hotdogs and hamburgers cooked by our very own Jeff Parker and the Catering Company of Paducah on the day of the tournament. Getting tight hitting all those shots? No worries chair massages will also be provided by massage therapists from The Relaxation Station.

The PTA chose to host this tournament because there’s nothing similar in the area. There are some adult tournaments, but a recent survey of members indicated the number one thing they wanted was charity tournaments.

“It made sense to combine the two things I am passionate about,” said PTA board member Jessica Richards, who is also a member of the Charity League. “This tournament will help promote the tennis community around the Paducah area. Since both entities are 501C charities we can provide the Charity League with additional funding that help’s support Easter Seals West Kentucky. And, we can provide more opportunities with the Paducah Tennis Association to create new opportunities for the game of tennis.”

Sponsorships still available

Sponsorships range from $100 to $500. Tournament registration is $60 per doubles team. It's a doubles format round robin tournament.
