Who can blame Girl, Something for lettin' loose a little love on John Romang? He's the one who painted her, after all! And this hot, up-and-coming artist has a big show coming up, 6-10 p.m., Saturday, April 19, at The Madison, 332 North 7th St., second floor. Come, check out his great work – and buy a few pieces. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the prices. Plus, profits from the proceeds go to charity!John Romang, you are cute, cute, cute, no doubt about it! Tell us about your show Saturday.
Mainly, I wanted to do it because we have so many great spaces in LowerTown that we should take advantage of. We want people to come to LowerTown to see art. So I'm just trying to take full advantage of the city.
|
| His cut paper projects, like Brak, will go for $30. |
Yes. I thought it would be fun to do a show non-traditionally, and not in a gallery. I wanted to try something a little different and a little offbeat. The Madison was the first place I considered.
So what can folks expect?
Well, along with my art, we're going to have a paint wall where people can just go crazy with paint. And we have DJ Urban Kobbb of iList Paducah spinning the tunes.
|
| Green Shoes is already sold! |
Yeah, I'm totally excited about that. And we'll have wine and a keg of Schlafly from St. Louis and some hors d'oeuvres.
And your whole family is coming?
My whole family will be there. My four little brothers and my mom and dad are coming down from Springfield, Ill.
Rock on! How many pieces will you show?
I have about 30 pieces so far, ranging from $3 to $300.
|
| John's photographs will be priced at $3. |
I wanted to give a range because when you go to shows and the pieces are priced so high, that's not really fair to all the visitors. I want everyone to have the opportunity to enjoy this stuff instead of just me. If they want to.
Oh, we'll want to! And you're giving the money to charity?
The profit from the sales will go to charity.
|
| Girl, Something, as well as this one, called Pretty Girl, will range from $200-$300. |
We'll pick one Saturday night. I just want to get my stuff out there.
Well, John Romang, this is just too cute!
I just hope everyone has a good time. I really just want people to come, have a free beer and enjoy life for the night.
That's a pretty easy goal to fulfill! We'll see you Saturday!
