Elizabeth Stevenson will be a senior at Marshall County High School this fall - and she’s one busy and talented gal. She plans to study pre-med at college and is already a budding musician, playing gigs around the area. Her talents include drawing and painting, and she loves listening to her old vinyls. Give a warm round of applause as we iMeet Liz!

Welcome to iMeet, Liz. Tell us about yourself...

I was born December of 2000 in Paducah. I was quite premature at 29 weeks and only 1lb 15 oz! I’ve been catching up ever since!

I’ve lived in Calvert City all my life. In elementary school I went to Calvert City Elementary where my mom teaches, and then, in middle school I attended North Marshall Middle School. Now, in high school, I go to Marshall.

Tell us about your family...

I am an only child and live with my wonderful parents, Michele and Ricky. We have three precious dogs: Daisy, Junior, and Julio.

You will be a senior at MCHS this fall. What are your plans after high school?

I plan to go to the University of Louisville for college, as a pre-med student. Hopefully I’ll do well and get into medical school. I’d like to train to become either a psychiatrist or a cardiologist.

Are you involved in any extra-curricular clubs or groups at school?

At school I have been involved in a few extra-curricular activities and groups in school, including choir. I am also a member of the Young Democrats club, as well as the Student-Y Club.

Tell us about your singing and local performances. Have you played guitar your whole life or recently picked it up?

Music has always been a big part of my life; I’ve always immersed myself in different styles of music and found myself motivated to learn to play guitar in order to play like some of my favorite artists. I started playing guitar in about seventh grade, so I have been playing seriously for about four years.

I have enjoyed singing since I was very young, but was always too shy, and never really thought I was very good. I starting singing more while playing guitar alone and finally felt comfortable singing some songs for my parents, and it has only gone from there!

Where do you play mostly? Any upcoming shows?

I occasionally play on Friday nights at Etcetera Coffeehouse in Paducah, and more often have shows on Fridays at the Dam Brewhaus in Benton. I am slowly getting more upcoming gigs at various restaurants and other places. Soon, I have a show at the Brewhaus on June 22nd.

Who are some of your favorite artists? Biggest influences?

Some of my favorite artists include Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, and Ray LaMontagne. My biggest influences would have to be David Bowie and Led Zeppelin. Both have left an incredible impact on rock music, and have paved the way for many other artists.

David Bowie especially provided me with a sense of comfort and ease in being myself and creating the art I truly wish to, however out there or odd that may seem to others. Led Zeppelin has been a major influence on my guitar playing, and their music has been a favorite of mine since middle school.

You are also a very talented artist. Tell us about some of your favorite mediums...

Some of my favorite artistic mediums include pencil, watercolor, and occasionally oil. I do a lot of realistic portraits in pencil, as I really enjoy the time and detail portraits require and all of the shading found in faces.

What do you like to do in your free time?

In my free time I usually like to read, draw, or learn some new songs. Often I’m down at the coffee shop having coffee with my friends and enjoying downtown Paducah.

Any travel plans this summer?

I don’t have any major travel plans his summer - I think I’ll mostly stay around here, playing music and going to local places with my friends.

What's your biggest pet peeve?

My biggest pet peeve is probably when people expect/achieve success without effort. It’s frustrating to see, and it often invalidates others who achieve the same things through hard work.

What's your favorite food? Does someone in particular have to make it?

My favorite food is pretty much any kind of vegetarian food in general! I love when my mom cooks for me, and when I get food from the local plant-based restaurant Branch Out.

It's a rainy Sunday afternoon...what might we find you doing?

On a rainy Sunday afternoon I would most likely be found on my porch swing with a good book, or maybe in bed with my dog Daisy, listening to my old vinyls.

Thanks for chatting, Liz. I bet your vinyl collection is the envy of your friends. Good luck with high school, college, and your music career. When you’re famous you can tell everyone iList found you first!
