The annual Paducah Christmas Parade will hit the streets at 5 pm this Saturday, December 1. The parade route begins at 14th Street and Broadway and travels down Broadway to 2nd Street. The parade will then turn left on 2nd Street and continue to Monroe Street where it will disband. Parade participants are encouraged to continue moving on 2nd Street toward the Farmers’ Market pavilion to maintain the flow of the parade.

The theme for the 2018 Christmas Parade is A Comic Book Christmas - so look for all your favorite superhero characters. Everyone of the approximately 100 floats will have music and lighting that reflects the theme. Parade entries will be judged at 4 pm on December 1. Santa Claus will make a special appearance at the end of the parade on the official Santa float and will be available for photos after the parade at the downtown gazebo.

iLove ItChristine Thompson is the Christmas Parade Grand Marshal. Thompson is the first Hispanic woman to hold an elected office in Kentucky. This month, voters elected her to serve on the Livingston County School Board.

Parade floats and entries will line up on Broadway between 14th and Fountain Avenue, on Fountain Avenue between Broadway and Monroe, and on Jefferson between 14th and Fountain Avenue.

Please note that streets will be closed in the staging area beginning at 2:30 pm on December 1. Streets along the parade route will close at 3:30 pm in preparation for the parade. The Parks & Recreation Department also asks the public to refrain from parking in the parade preparation area from 2 - 6 pm to help limit the congestion of vehicles and floats.

“A Comic Book Christmas is a new fun theme for those wanting to participate in the annual float contest,” said Molly Johnson, Special Events Coordinator for the City. “We do new themes each year for the float contest, but spectators can expect to see traditional Christmas decorations on other floats as well. Be on the lookout for the Santa float - an annual tradition for the last float in the parade.”

“The Parade is put on by the Paducah Parks and Recreation Department and draws thousands each year. It is just one of many special events that can be found in Paducah for the holiday season!” Johnson added.
