The Art market will be open and the event also marks the opening reception for the group exhibition Who We Are: Portraits and Stories of Our Community.

"This event celebrates and showcases the creative energy in our community,” MAG Executive Director, Debi Danielson, told me. “With music and creative making, it's a great way to spend a summer evening!"

Activities for kids include artist demos in metal sculpture with Nathan Kennedy, wood turning with Wyatt Severs, ceramics/wheel throwing with Josh Riley. Other artists will be working in their studios: Phylis Lindsey/spinning, Jo Bennet/metals/jewelry, Rosemary Kandt/beading, Terry Joe Sledd/book arts. There will also be several hands-on activities for kids as well as face painting and sidewalk chalk.

Emily Wolfson Watercolors

There will be a special sale of Emily Wolfson’s watercolors. You can visit their website for a sneak peek of the special sale. You can purchase these items in the Art Market during the party anytime from 6-9.

Emily Wolfson was an active member and supporter of MAG. She passed away in 2015 at the age of 99. After receiving her Master of Arts degree, Wolfson taught art at several universities, and retired from Murray State Teachers College. She helped to found the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen and was instrumental in organizing the Art Train, which provided art instruction around the state in two railroad cars. Kentucky Governor Martha Collins awarded Wolfson the Community Arts Award in 1987 in recognition of her work. The MAG was proud to receive many original, signed watercolors from her estate.

The Summer Art Party also marks the beginning of their membership/supporter drive. Membership letters have been mailed; but you can also renew your membership at the art party. This year they will hold a drawing for a gift basket filled with goodies donated by artists for anyone who renews their membership or support by June 30th (or postmarked by June 30). They will draw for the gift basket mid-July.
