Crazy Yorky Ladies Jamboree

Beginning on Monday April 29 at 10 am Grand Rivers has gone to the dogs - cute little Yorky dogs that is. Next week is the 3rd Annual Crazy Yorky Ladies Jamboree. This is a week-long party for our small four legged friends and their owners.

iPlayThe Crazy Yorky Ladies group began in 2009 with four people and now has over 13,500 members, from over 25 countries around the world. This amazing event raises money and supplies for the Marshall County Humane Society. The Jamboree is the brainchild of Skipper Neuzerling.

“I started the group on 2010 with three other ladies on Facebook,” Skipper told me.  “We now have almost 18K members in 40 countries!”

In order to be a part of the Jamboree you must be a member of the Facebook group” Crazy Yorkie Ladies” or a friend, or family of a member. While it’s too late to register for this year’s event - registration closed in December- it’s never too late to join the group in anticipation of 2020 – their 5 year anniversary.

“The first jamboree had 87 people and was held near Miami in 2013,” said Skipper. “I did one in Pidgeon Forge, and for the past three years we have made Grand Rivers our home. They have adopted the Crazy Yorkie ladies and we have adopted them. Everywhere we have held the event we raise funds for local rescues.”

iPlay “It’s not just Crazy Yorkie ladies, we also have Crazy Yorkie dudes”.  The men are real admirers.  The usually have to be driven by their ladies the first year and once they’ve experienced this we can’t keep them away – it’s so much fun!”

“This year’s theme is CYL Rocking 50’s Jamboree. We don’t have competitions but almost everyone works with the theme. They dress up etc.  There’s lots of shopping and lots of great food, and giveaways and swag. We utilize all the local businesses.”

Public events include the parade on Thursday and Vendor Day which is 9 am – 2 pm on Wednesday May 1 in Grand Rivers Park.

“The Route 66 Cruise-In Parade is going to be amazing!” Skipper told me.  “Everybody begins to line up at 11 am with a definite parade start at noon. Over 300 dogs and 180 CYL members will be dressed in their very best 50's themed outfits, riding in custom designed strollers. Everyone is invited to line the streets to see the amazing costumes.

Parade Marshal's Ann and Dan with ‘Bear on the Air’ from 97FM will lead the parade and all the fun – they’ll start at the Community Building and then head down Main Street.

Vendor day is also open to the public and will feature many shopping opportunities as well as a lot of cute, cute Yorky’s!
