The 4 Rivers JDRF One Walk™ is one of more than 200 nationwide walks that bring together people who share JDRF’s vision - to create a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D). The event takes place August 25, at Noble Park in Paducah. Check-in and on-site registration begins at 9 am and the walk begins at 10 am. The walk is two miles.
This year, the 4 Rivers chapter has set a fundraising goal of more than $65,000, which will help fund critically needed T1D research. Visit the registration page to sign up to participate in this event or to donate to JDRF.
“Whether you have type 1 diabetes, know someone who does, or want to simply participate in an event that makes a huge impact on so many lives, JDRF welcomes you to our team,” said Cathy Chisholm, Chapter Executive Director. “Thanks to the incredible supporters of JDRF One Walk, the community of Paducah, and supporters like Davis Drugs and Anthem Medicaid, JDRF is able to direct even more funding toward important T1D research for the 1.25 million people with this serious disease. We are confident that together, we will reach our fundraising goal and ultimately be a part of turning Type One into Type None.”
JDRF One Walk is expected to draw an enthusiastic crowd of all ages. They are all there to support a great cause while enjoying an event that includes food, kid’s games, and other entertainment. JDRF One Walk is the most powerful peer-to-peer fundraising program in the world for T1D. It raises more than $68 million annually. Since 1992, the money raised by the event funds life-changing T1D research that has led to breakthrough discoveries.

Type 1 Diabetes
Type one diabetes is a chronic, life-threatening autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults at any age. In type 1 diabetes, the body's immune system destroys the cells that release insulin, eventually eliminating insulin production from the body. Type one diabetes requires rigorous 24/7 monitoring of blood glucose levels to avoid devastating complications. T1D onset is sudden and unpreventable, and it is unrelated to diet or lifestyle.
JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Their mission is to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat T1D and its complications. To accomplish this, JDRF has invested more than $2 billion in research funding since their inception.
They are an organization built on a grassroots model of people connecting in their local communities, collaborating regionally for efficiency and broader fundraising impact, and uniting on a national stage to pool resources, passion, and energy.
They collaborate with academic institutions, policymakers, as well as corporate and industry partners to develop and deliver of innovative therapies to people living with T1D. For more information, please visit jdrf.org or follow them on Twitter: @JDRF.
