It’s opening night at Brooks Stadium in Paducah this Friday. Baseball is here and summer has officially begun! The McCracken County Public Library (McLib) has partnered with The Chiefs to make this a fun family evening. Brooks Stadium is home to the one and only Paducah local team, The Chiefs.

“Two of our favorite past times are baseball and reading, so this partnership is a grand slam!” said Susan Baier, Director at the McCracken County Public Library. “We are thankful to the Chiefs for giving us an opportunity to tell baseball fans about the exciting programs we will have all summer long. The theme of the summer reading program this year will be Summer of Space. Children of all ages are encouraged to participate and check out the amazing programs at the library this summer. “

Staff from the library will be present along with the infamous ‘Brary Bike’. There will be free face painting, and giveaways. You can also sign up for a library card and learn more about the Summer Reading Program.

Signing up for a library card is simple and only takes a few minutes. Library cards are free to residents of the Purchase Area counties and good for one year. All you need is proof of address. With a library card, you have access to all of the great resources the library has to offer, both online and at the library located at 555 Washington Street.

The Chief’s 27-player roster will be introduced. Five returning players, including fourth time returning player, Reid Pope, will lead the way to a fun night of baseball.

“Baseball at Brooks Stadium is all about the kids,” Chiefs General Manager Greg McKeel said. “Come out with your family, have fun with the library activities, and cheer on The Chiefs! The library presented this great idea to partner with them. We are fully on board to support our community in any way that we can. Whether you love baseball, books, or both, you will enjoy a relaxed evening on Friday night.”
