This year’s Christmas Light Bike Ride is taking place on Tuesday, December 4. Everyone is invited to join the fun and get some exercise! Participants should meet at Bike World, located at 809 Joe Clifton Dr. in Paducah at 6 pm. Riders will circle through the lights at Noble Park twice, then those interested may opt to enjoy the quiet winter beauty of a night ride on the Greenway Trail to the foot of Broadway.
There's no charge for the ride, but organizers will collect canned goods and/or money for Paducah Cooperative Ministry from those who wish to donate. This event has been occurring for over ten years and is continually growing. There’s usually between 75 and 100 adults and children in attendance.
At the ride's conclusion, participants can visit and enjoy hot Christmas wassail, punch, cookies and other holiday treats.
It’s going to be a brisk ride so please make sure everyone is dressed in cold weather wear including gloves and under-the-helmet ear bands or a balaclava. BikeWorld encourages you to put as many lights as possible on your bike! (Lights will be available at BikeWorld.)
Bike World owner Martha Emmons said participants can get creative when lighting up their bike. “We have seen some amazing riders in the past. People have covered themselves and their bikes with lights. One year, someone had a lit-up Santa worn on his back. So, if you were behind his bike, it looked like Santa was riding!”
Emmons added that this event is a great reminder that she’s from Paducah. “This is a signature Paducah event. It’s always fun to hear grown children remember attending the ride as a great memory from their childhood. Your children grow up so fast - give them memories that will last a lifetime.”
