This year’s Superman Celebration will be held in Metropolis, beginning Thursday, June 7, and continuing through Sunday, June 10.

“We always have guests that travel from other countries for the event,” says GMCVB Executive Director Trish Steckenrider. “This year we know of visitors coming from the UK and Australia. Fans come in to meet Superman related celebrities, attend autograph sessions and get up close and personal with comic writers, and artists in the event’s Artist Alley.”

“We are excited and proud of what this event has been able to become and what it does for the town of Metropolis,” said Karla Ogle who co-chairs the event with Lisa Gower.  “This year is particularly special for us as we celebrate our 40th celebration - Superman is celebrating his 80th Anniversary as well.”

“There are also many more milestones that happen for the Metropolis’ favorite son in 2018, so we really wanted to make this year great,” added Gower. “With the celebrity and artist roster for 2018 it will be one for the record books.”

New locations

Due to increased business development, some locations for events will change this year.  According to Amanda King, Executive Director for the Metropolis Chamber of Commerce this is a good issue to have.  “For the past 2 years we have seen what was empty store fronts become popular businesses on Market Street,” King told me. “We have very few empty store fronts, which is fantastic for Metropolis.” Some of those new locations include the use of the Massac County Courthouse and the Courthouse Annex (formerly the Banterra Bank building).

Super for Kids
