The Jackson Purchase Foundation works to improve the quality of life for folks in the Purchase Area. they are hosting a free, family friendly, float on the Clarks River this Saturday, September 15. the fun takes place from 9 am - 1 pm with registration beginning at 8 am.

The float will begin at the Sheehan Bridge launch site (under the bridge near the intersection of Oaks Rd. & Sheehan Bridge Rd.) and will end at the Clarks River Boat Ramp on Clarks River Rd. near Harned’s BBQ on Paducah’s south side. The trip normally lasts 2 to 3 hours depending on current and paddling speed.

Directions to the site are as follows: From I-24 exit 16: Turn toward Benton on Hwy 68 and take the first right onto Benton Road (KY 284/131) and go into Reidland. Follow past Traders Mall, Food Giant, and Dollar General. Turn on the first two lane, paved road on the left past Dollar General, Sheehan Bridge Road. Follow about 3 or 4 miles to the launch site under the bridge with the driveway on your left. Signs will be posted

They have a limited number of canoes and kayaks available to reserve on a first come first serve basis (please email them to register in advance to reserve yours if you have not done so). They will provide life jackets, transportation of canoes/kayaks and people back to the launch site, and lunch at the launch site after the float trip. You are welcome and encouraged to bring your own canoes and kayaks as well.

Meetup organizers/leaders are not guides. Expect the same risks and take the same precautions you would take if you were kayaking or canoeing alone. Be sure to bring and wear your personal flotation vest. You are solely responsible for your own safety and well-being while on the water.

They work with local citizens and leaders to develop ideas, build partnerships, find funding, and implement projects that improve the quality of life for citizens of the Jackson Purchase region.

With assistance from their diverse and productive partnerships, they bring together people and organizations, including private landowners, conservation groups, local, state and federal governments, nonprofits and the private sector, to implement projects that promote healthy communities, healthy environments and sustainable economic growth.
