The 2018 Encampment will be held at the historic Fort Massac State Park on Saturday and Sunday, October 20 and 21. It’s a fabulous day that the whole family will enjoy. You don’t want to miss the thunderous boom of cannons or the tempting assortment of foods and activities that are presented each year.

The Encampment is much more than an “old-time craft fair”. It pays tribute to Illinois’ rich frontier history and features historical re-enactors and skilled craftspeople. They represent the  who battled over Fort Massac throughout the past three plus centuries. You will see French, British and Americans gather at the Encampment to demonstrate the skills and lifestyles of early residents in this area.

Visitors to the two-day event view military camps and buck skinner lodges, craft stalls and trade blankets, as well as a large assortment of booths with period food and drinks.

Battle re-enactments will again be held in the valley area, which Fort Massac Site Superintendent Chris McGinness says gives spectators the best view of the battle. The crowds will be able to watch the troops, who are authentically attired, face off in the Battle of Drouillard Creek.

10am to 5pm daily visitors can watch military and civilian craft activities and demonstrations. Both days begin with a post of colors. Highlights include mock battles and tactical demonstrations, voyagers, traders, craftsman, children’s games, music and period food and dress. And the best part - admission is free!

The event will be held at Fort Massac State Park located at 1308 E 5th Street in Metropolis, Illinois. For more information, call 618.524.5025 or 877.424.5025 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
