Impressions 2018 is the annual juried exhibition hosted by The Icehouse Gallery in Mayfield. It will open on Friday, November 9, with a reception from 5 - 7pm. The public is invited, and refreshments will be served. Awards will be presented at 6pm. The exhibition will run until Saturday, December 15.
Impressions 2018 is open to visual artists working in Kentucky and the surrounding states. A $200 cash award will be given for the artwork selected as “Best of Show.” Cash awards of $100 for first place and $50 for second place will be given in each of the five categories: Painting, Photography, Drawing, Mixed Media including fiber arts, and Sculpture. Honorable mention awards may be given at the discretion of the juror.
This year’s juror is Rita Park, a studio ceramics artist who resides in Brookport, Illinois. Rita moved to Brookport in 2009 with her husband David, a retired Navy pilot. She earned a B.A. from Vanderbilt and has been making pottery from her own studios for the past 23 years. She feels that the Arts have supplied a new “vibrancy” to her life after retirement and hopes to share this appreciation as she juries this year’s show.
This year’s exhibition has entries from western Kentucky and western Tennessee. There are paintings and drawings by Tommy Fletcher from Paducah, sculpture by Bill Douglas and Brent McKinney, and mixed media work by Carolyn Daniels. There are photographs by Lynn Bartlett, Denny Dreyer, April McCormack, Karen Taylor, Tina Sexton and many others.
Icehouse Director Ric Watson is excited for this year’s show. “It will be one of our best Impressions' exhibitions to date.”
